The spirit of Ubuntu
The word Ubuntu has a lot of meanings: universal truth, way of life, it underpins the concept of an open society. You will find the spirit of Ubuntu in the townships. A township is a really South African Word. It refers to the country’s many satellite settlements created by a policy of segregation. People were forced to move into the townships under difficult circumstances during Apartheid.
The establishment of a new democracy in 1994 brought about a new attitude in the townships. These days, you will find that the townships are flourishing towns, which are save to visit and where the locals take pride in their homes, their surroundings and themselves.
They have found initiative ways to be creative and rise above their conditions. It is great to see how they use waste products to make the most wonderful art and crafts. If you want to get to know the REAL AFRICA a township tour is a necessity.
